Big Sound Live: Gold Coast.. Music?

You’re probably unaware of the under, under ground war that rages on between Brisbane and Goldcoast’s music scene. It’s a war that hinges on our ability to ignore the Gold Coast as a place for musicians altogether as we assume it’s all drugs, strip clubs and crooked cops. It’s like Underbelly but with fake tans.

We’ve been dealt a blow though, as at Big Sound Live, the Gold Coast Music Industry Association’s (GCMIA) party host such fine artistry that it renders our strategy utterly useless

How can we ignore them now?

Two that we’re excited to see -

Oceanics

These guys will get you dancing quicker than you can say Cavill Ave. Infusing rockabilly, a hint of pop, and a bit of punk thrown in for good measure, and you have yourself some good ol’ Gold Coast indie – who’d have thought?

Brothers

These guys have played along acts such as Fire! Santa Rosa Fire!, Philadelphia Grand Jury, The Choir Boys, Wolfmother, The Galvatrons, Gyroscope, and Numbers Radio. They’re also playing at the upcoming Parklife festivals. If you enjoy, a) rockin’ out, or b) new bands kickin’ it old school then you might like these guys. They reminds us of Soundgarden, in a way. Make sure you have a listen.

The party is held at Bakery Lane on Thursday, September 9th at 5pm until 8pm.

Lambda This Week

This Thursday will be a night to remember, as we say goodbye to winter and hello to spring! Spring means change, saying goodbye to the freezing cold, and unfortunately, this week we farewell local lads THE ORANGE CITY SINGS.

The boys have been kicking around the Brisbane scene but have decided to part ways, giving fans one final opportunity to bask in their melodies. This is the last time the guys will be playing live. This LAMBDA is not one to be missed. Helping the boys bow out are THE CHANNELERS…. their mystical ways will no doubt ensure that the night is unforgettable…

LAMBDA has been the birth place of many bands, friends, memories and moments, but this week we say goodbye to The Orange City Sings… Lambda style. All of the usual antics will ensue, as per usual, with our LAMBDA DJs playing your favourite party tunes late into the night to ease your sorrows…

Before further investigations commenced online, we thought Festival of The Sun was a cult inspired event that made a deranged people worship the beaming orb we call The Sun. After a few moments of investigation we discovered this was not the case, and we responded with a ‘Yes sir, we’ll play your festival’. So Festival Of The Sun is where we’re heading December 10th and 11th at Port Macquarie.

A few people that have been there in the past said the BYO policy and the relaxing atmosphere makes for an exquisite time out. How could we pass up such a rarity?

We’re back! It feels like the weekend has only just ended but who the hell remembers how it began? Lambda is here to entertain you again this Thursday night, to prep you up for the weekend and encourage you to skip your Friday morning lectures.

That’s right, we’re on again this Thursday til the wee hours of the morning. The night kicks off with 2 great local acts THE FAZE & BADGERS supporting interstate headliners POLAROID FAME. Make sure you come and check this out because this is a night of the best up-and-coming East Coast acts that you do not want to miss.

But alas, the night does not end there. After bands finish our resident LAMBDA DJs as per usual do their thing (i.e. play the best party/indie/dancefloor anthems) til the early hours, making your feet hurt and voice lost (only to be regained in time for next week).

We’ve also doing something special and launching MIAMI HORROR’S new album ILLUMINATION and have copies to give away as well as t-shirts this week thanks to EMI + some other cool surprises!!
